What is the premise of The Addend?
This is not a test. This is your emergency broadcast system announcing the commencement of the Annual Purge sanctioned by the U.S. Government. Weapons of class 4 and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted. Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity from the Purge and shall not be harmed. Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12 continuous hours. Police, fire, and emergency medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. Blessed be our New Founding Fathers and America, a nation reborn. May God be with you all.

Crime in the United States has risen abruptly following the most recent purge. The Founding Fathers have assessed our Annual Purge laws and adjusted them to allow for this unwanted change. In a three month cycle, all citizens will celebrate a time of peace, preparation, and purge. All previous Purge Night guidelines still apply. This will continue until the Nation is no longer in an economic collapse and rising social unrest has been quelled. Blessed Be the Founding Fathers. Blessed Be the Addend.

Based off of The Purge.

Where are they?
In a city that resembles Detroit, Michigan in the United States. More information can be found here.

What happens when characters arrive?
After fifteen successful purges, success is at a standstill. The New Founding Fathers have found a way to bring others to the city to encourage everyone's right to purge. Characters wake up in a random warehouse with others who have arrived, and inside, there are two doors on opposite ends of the building with people who represent both sides—those who are anti-purge and those who are pro-purge. It is the only neutral zone in the city. A speech is given to explain the situation, and characters must choose a side. Characters who choose the anti-purge side are picked up in old buses and vans to be taken to old apartment buildings with basic necessities; there is no reception but are told exactly how it is by veteran Purge survivors. They must get a job and earn money to protect themselves during The Purge that cycles every two months. Characters who choose the pro-purge side are chauffeured in limousines to fancy hotels with even nicer accommodations and are welcomed with an extravagant party as well as motivation to purge: you have to purge, but if you survive three purges, you get to go home.

This is a big incentive but only offered to that side. Anyone who is anti-purge won't be allowed to go home, no matter how many times they make it through. It's part of the reward the NFFA give to get people to purge. There's also the option to defect later if a character decides that they want to purge after all.

What is the difference between pro-purge and anti-purge?
Pro-purge is anyone that will be actively participating. The NFFA has eyes everywhere and will be monitoring the majority of the city, focusing on those who agreed to purge. There will be consequences for any character who chose the pro side and then didn't purge; however, this won't be brought to attention until it happens. Crime is legal, but it's not the NFFA's focus; they believe purging is expelling sins and inner anger through true release: murder. It's meant to cleanse the soul and spirit which makes them better people, so pro-purge simple means actively supporting and killing at least three people to go home. More if the character wants.

Anti-purge is anyone who does not fit into this category and/or does not believe in the NFFA's "right" to purge.

What are events like?
The events are going to run on a three month cycle. The first month is 'peace', where the monthly events will focus on gaining cr and forcing awkward interactions between characters from different groups. The second is 'preparation', where the events allow characters to build, gather, and work against or with each other to get ready for the purge. The last month will be the purge month (which is also a no application month) and will hone in on the nitty gritty of murder and survival.

The plots will focus on the strain between classes as well as issues that developed strictly based on being allowed to do whatever you want for twelve hours - murder and so on. It will be a lot of killing in that third month, but the events will definitely get into the dynamics surrounding the Purge. There are also opportunities for characters to have lives, businesses, start a rebel group, or pro-purge church organization or anything else they can come up with.

Game Plot:

For anyone that isn't canon (The Purge Movies) familiar, our game is veering off the timeline a little but the universe it's set in is very similar. The New Founding Father's created the Purge; it is only held in the United States, specifically a Detroit-esque city created for The Addend. At this point, fifteen years have passed with this process, and the NFFA aren't pleased with the sudden increase in crime, rebellion, and overall lack of Purge Night participants. Which is where the Addend comes into play and where our game will start. While each month of our three month cycle will have a 'main' focus, the metaplot for the game will have a continuous flow. In the beginning, arrivals will be given a bit more leeway as to what they can do because this is all brand new. The NFFA are implementing a new procedure and they don't know how it's going to go. Their main goal is to get more people to purge - which is why new arrivals are allowed to choose. They need people to purge and be purged.

As we move through our game plot, both anti and pro purge groups will act out causing IC consequences. This might mean that the NFFA could change the laws on allowed weapons, limit what anti-purge groups can do during peace times, etc. Rebellion groups don't have as much influence, or support, but they are extremely active and will be brought into the game plot as we move through. To sum it all up, players have the opportunity to decide how much they get involved in. The plot and the game will continue even after the first purge night - and what happens during that event will help determine what actions the NFFA take; this is something that the mods and players will both have say in. We're also extremely into the idea of player suggestions and ideas, so don't be shy. Talk to us.

Do they get devices?
Yes; they are similar to today's smartphones. The network comm consists of all the apps on the phone; one app allows communications between all residents in the city (typical posts) - however, all access to anyone outside of the city is currently blocked. The NFFA explain that it is for the safety of its new residents, but whether that is to be believed is entirely up to each character. All other apps exist (twitter, facebook, etc.) and can be used.

Can characters leave?
They can try, but essentially, no. Devices given to them in the warehouse have specific IDs that do not allow them to pass through checkpoints posted around the city that allow people to enter and exit. Other residents can be seen coming and going, but new arrivals aren't allowed.

What happens when they die?
Somehow, characters wake up in the warehouse's neutral zone. Regardless of their previous memories, they are compelled to choose the opposite side of what they'd chosen before they'd died. So if a character was pro-purge and dies, then they will be placed on the opposite and 'want' to be there. The same goes for the opposite.

Are there NPCs?
Yes; more will be added as your mods and players create them!

Strom Thurmond - Pro-Purge
Anon - Anti-Purge

How does applying work?
Go to the application page. You do not need a reserve to reply; however, reserves last for the first 24 hours and then they expire. Applications are open from the 1st to the 8th of each month. They will run on a three month cycle—open the first two months and closed on the third month (which is the purge month).

What kind of characters are accepted?
Canon, original, canon AU, and player-created protagonists (MMOs and Tabletop). Fandom OCs are accepted as long as they don't have any attachment to canon characters. Only one version of a character is accepted at a time. We do not currently accept CRAUs.

Do characters keep their powers/abilities?
No. Everyone is considered to be of standard human strength/speed/healing, etc. when they are brought in. If there is a question specific to certain characters, ask the mods. Exceptions can be made!

What if my character is immortal?
They’re mortal now! Immortality absolutely cannot be earned through the weapons page. All characters can die.

How many characters can I play in the game?
A maximum of three at this time, but if you are extremely active and want to bring in more, contact a mod!

What are activity requirements?
Activity will be either five log comments or ten network comments from your character each month. Our first check is on July 1st to allow for the change.

Is there a Test Drive Meme?
Sometimes. We'll put them up as it seems necessary. Threads done on the tdm can be used for obtaining weapons in the same way that in-game tags are.

Can you steal from or hurt an NPC?
This is possible, but it requires mod permission and will have in-character consequences. Contact us if you are interested.

Are the mods anon?
Yes.

What is the rating of this game?
R+18!

Is there a game plurk?
Yes. [plurk.com profile] addendmods
